Public Announcement Clarification

Position Available for Appointment
Lancaster County Democratic Commissioner

On December 21, 2021 the Court of Common Pleas of Lancaster County announced that it was accepting applications from interested persons for the position of County Commissioner of Lancaster County due to the forthcoming vacancy caused by the resignation of Democratic Commissioner Craig E. Lehman on December 17, 2021 to be effective January 7, 2022. This supplemental announcement clarifies that original announcement.

As stated previously, the Board of Judges have determined that only applicants who are not candidates for election for County Commissioner in the 2023 general election will be considered. However, any applicant who submits the required documents is only prohibited from running in that election. Any applicants shall be permitted to run for County Commissioner in any general election thereafter.

As stated previously, no telephone calls or e-mails will be accepted. Further, no other forms of communication will be accepted. This prohibition covers the complete appointment process from start to finish. Any communication, if needed, will be initiated by the Court.

Lancaster County Democratic Commissioner

 The Court of Common Pleas of Lancaster County is now accepting applications from interested persons for the position of County Commissioner of Lancaster County. The position is open due to the forthcoming vacancy caused by the resignation of Democratic Commissioner Craig E. Lehman on December 17, 2021 to be effective January 7, 2022. The position will be filled by appointment pursuant to Section 501 of the County Code (16 P.S. §501) and be for the balance of Commissioner Lehman’s unexpired term which ends January 1, 2024.

Interested applicants must be registered electors of Lancaster County and members of the Democratic Party. The Board of Judges have determined that only applicants who are not candidates for election for County Commissioner in the 2023 general election will be considered. Interested applicants MUST submit an application and a resume of their full educational background and work experience, a statement of their goals and objectives as County Commissioner if selected for appointment, and a criminal background investigation waiver. Applicants must submit one original and thirteen (13) copies of the applications, resumes, statements, and waiver forms.  must be sent to: Mark Dalton, District Court Administrator, 50 North Duke Street, P.O. Applications will not be accepted after 3:00 PM on Friday, January 21, 2022. No telephone calls or e-mails will be accepted. Please note that all applicants shall be subject to and by submitting an application agree to undergo a complete personal and criminal background investigation. After the deadline for filing has expired, all paperwork submitted, except the waiver,¹ will be subject to public inspection on the Court’s website beginning Monday, January 24, 2022, at 1:30 PM. Prior to the deadline, only the identity of the applicants will be subject to public disclosure.²

The Board of Judges will review the applications submitted and determine which candidates will be interviewed. Public interviews will occur on Friday, February 4, 2022 at 1:30 PM in Courtroom A. Thereafter, the Board of Judges will meet and will determine the successful candidate by vote.

¹The criminal background investigation waiver form will not be released since it contains sensitive personal identifying numbers that could facilitate identity theft.

² An applicant’s name will be posted on the Court’s website ONLY if the application is completed properly.
